Bad Parenting Days

Most of the time I consider myself to be an okish parent.

I give my children love & attention, teach them good values and set reasonable boundaries.

But today I feel I have been pushed to my limits.

R is not food motivated in any way, which proves to be a problem 3 times a day, every day.Β  Most of the time we cope by talking her along, reminding her why she is at the table and why there is food in front of her.

Today I lost my patience and over very little put her in the naughty corner, which led to a rightful tantrum because she felt she had been wrong done by.

After I calmed down I apologised to R we spent time cuddling and chatting.

R also suffers from eczema and it’s been apearing on her face latley, but she forbids any cream on her face and I don’t know what to do about it.Β  Her face is red and dry. 😦

I feel exhausted after today with the children and to top it off, whilst P having her nappy free time due to nappy rash had a poo accident on the kitchen floor, the dog then decided to eat it.

Time for wine I think…

Oh dear, definately wine o’clock i would have said πŸ™‚
I can so sympathize though, when Imogen was little she went on hunger strike for almost 2 years, and in that time i had her up to the hospital for all kinds of tests, even that barium meal one followed by an xray to check she could swallow ok ! She was a skinny little thing too, it was such a worry. Now though she is 12 (almost) and has no memory of any of it and eats like a horse (still skinny but taller than me !, i’m 5.5 ). All i could do at the time was perserve putting tempting small plates of food infront of her and had to keep bringing her back to the table but make no fuss about the fact she wouldn’t touch the food. Wasn’t easy though and some nights id go to bed feeling sick with worry.
My son (with autism) has always had excema too, it’s got a little better since i eliminated tomatoes and a few other bits from his diet. He gets it on his face too and HATES having cream put on. I use bribery shamelessly i’m afraid, only way i can get any on him.
Anyway i’ve wittered on, apologies for long comment, and you sound like a fab mum to me and one your children are extremely lucky to have. We all get days like those πŸ™‚
Hope today is a little less stressy, yours and mine lol (should see me some days with 6 kids to negotiate i think i should be a peace keeper for the UN ! ) xxx

Jo I think you have a heart of gold πŸ™‚ You love and care for your children with all that you have.
2 years of hardly eating? I would have had heart attacks daily! What do our children put us through. Glad to hear she grew out of it though, I guess we worry so much about their eating when they are little as we want them to grow big and strong.
Bribary with cream on face? Hmmm maybe the way forward, will try tonight and see what happens!

p.s Jo you never witter, only ever put all your love into your posts
    xx

Ah thankyou :-), i might have a heart of gold but i sometimes think i must have been missing a few marbles to have had six children πŸ™‚ though i wouldn’t change a thing. It’s just as you said though, the worry our children put us through, unknowingly of course.
I hope your daughter decides she enjoys food sooner rather than later, as it is such a worry when they’re small.
Also best of luck with the bribary, although Supernanny would be shaking her head at my tactics lol xx
